{"id":1132,"date":"2012-05-31T09:15:02","date_gmt":"2012-05-31T09:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/localhost\/test\/?page_id=1132"},"modified":"2016-12-18T11:14:10","modified_gmt":"2016-12-18T11:14:10","slug":"3-days","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/www.bespokebhutantours.com\/?page_id=1132","title":{"rendered":"3 Days (Thimphu-Paro)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Thimphu-Paro Tour<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 01 : Arrive Paro, transfer to Thimphu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In clear weather, flying into Bhutan provides wonderful views of the Eastern Himalayas,\u00a0culminating in an exciting descent, past forested mountains, to Paro in Western Bhutan.<\/p>\n<p>On arrival at Paro airport, you will be met by our representative for the 1.5 hour drive to\u00a0Thimphu, the modern capital of Bhutan.<\/p>\n<p>This afternoon, you may choose to visit a number of Thimphu\u2019s visitor attractions,\u00a0including the Folk Heritage Museum; the National Textile Museum; the National Institute\u00a0of Traditional Medicine; the Institute of Zorig Chusum, where students study and\u00a0practice Bhutan\u2019s traditional arts; and on weekends, the Centenary Farmers Market,\u00a0handicraft market or a game of archery in the National Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>Evening free. Overnight at the hotel in Thimphu.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 02 : Thimphu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This morning, we will visit Trashichho dzong, the seat of Government and office of the\u00a0King. It is also the summer residence of Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot of Bhutan. From\u00a0there, we continue to the National Memorial Chorten, one of Thimphu\u2019s most important\u00a0religious monuments, where local residents come to offer their daily prayers. It was\u00a0built in 1974, as a memorial to Bhutan\u2019s third king, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuk\u00a0(\u201cthe father of modern Bhutan\u201d).<\/p>\n<p>Our first stop after lunch is the Buddha Dordenma, one of the largest statues of Buddha\u00a0in the world, overlooking the southern end of the Thimphu valley.<\/p>\n<p>This afternoon, we drive back to Paro. On the way, we may stop at the fifteenth century\u00a0Tachog Lhakhang Dzong, a small temple built by Thangton Gyelpo, the iron bridge\u00a0builder, who built many iron bridges throughout Bhutan ad Tibet. A replica of one of his bridges takes us across the Paro Chhu to the small dzong.<\/p>\n<p>After checking into your hotel, enjoy a stroll around the small, pretty town of Paro.\u00a0Shops along the main street are open in the early evening and Paro dzong is beautifully\u00a0illuminated in the darkness.<\/p>\n<p>Overnight at the hotel in Paro.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Day 03 : Paro<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We begin the day\u2019s sight-seeing with a visit to Ta Dzong, once a watchtower,\u00a0overlooking Rinpung Dzong, and now the site of Bhutan\u2019s National Museum. Afterwards, walk down a hillside trail to visit Rinpung Dzong, on the banks of the Paro\u00a0Chhu and the setting for much of Bertolucci\u2019s film, Little Buddha. Today, the dzong is\u00a0home to a community of monks and the civil and administrative offices of the Paro\u00a0district.<\/p>\n<p>After lunch, choose from a short walk through the valley\u2019s rice fields, some last-minute\u00a0souvenir shopping or a visit to Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan,\u00a0built in the seventh century by the Tibetan king, Songtsan Gampo.<\/p>\n<p>Evening free.
